All need to know about 5G

All need to know about 5G

Q: Who has invented 5G ?

ANS: No one company or person owns 5G, but there are several companies within the mobile ecosystem that are contributing to bringing 5G  in reality. Qualcomm has played a major role in inventing the many foundational technologies that drive the industry forward and make up 5G, the next wireless standard.

The heart of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is, the industry organization that defines the global specifications for 3G UMTS (including HSPA), 4G LTE, and 5G technologies.

3GPP is driving many essential inventions across all aspects of 5G design, from the air interface to the service layer.

Q: What is 5G?

Ans: 5G is the 5th generation mobile network. It is a new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. 5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.

5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps data speeds, ultra low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability throughout  and a more uniform user experience to all its users. Higher performance and improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connects new industries.

Q: What underlying technologies make up 5G?

ANS: 5G is based on OFDM (Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing), a method of modulating a digital signal across several different channels to reduce interference. 5G uses 5G NR air interface alongside OFDM principles. 5G also uses wider bandwidth technologies such as sub-6 GHz and mmWave.

Like 4G LTE, 5G OFDM operates based on the same mobile networking principles. However, the new 5G NR air interface can further enhance OFDM to deliver a much higher degree of flexibility and scalability. This could provide more 5G access to people  and things for a variety of different use as per different cases.

5G will bring wider bandwidths by expanding the usage of spectrum resources, from sub-3 GHz used in 4G to 100 GHz and beyond. 5G can operate in both lower bands (e.g., sub-6 GHz) as well as mmWave (e.g., 24 GHz and up), which will bring enormous ability, multi-Gbps throughput, and low latency.

5G is designed to not only deliver faster, better mobile broadband services compared to 4G LTE, but can also expand into new service areas such as mission-significant communications and connecting the massive IoT.

Q: What are the differences between the previous generations of mobile networks and 5G network ?

ANS: The previous generations of mobile networks are 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G.

First generation – 1G
1980s: 1G delivered analog voice.

Second generation – 2G
Early 1990s: 2G introduced digital voice (e.g. CDMA- Code Division Multiple Access).

Third generation – 3G
Early 2000s: 3G brought mobile data (e.g. CDMA2000).

Fourth generation – 4G LTE
2010s: 4G LTE ushered in the era of mobile broadband.

1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G all led to 5G, which is designed to provide more connectivity than was ever available before.

5G is a unified, more capable air interface. It has been designed with an extended capacity to facilitate next-generation user experiences and empower new operation models and deliver new services.

With high speeds, superior reliability and slender latency, 5G will expand the mobile ecosystem into new realms. 5G will impact every industry, making safer transportation, remote healthcare, precision agriculture, digitized logistics — and more — a reality.

Q: How is 5G better than 4G?

ANS: There are several reasons that 5G will be better than 4G:

 Plus points of 5G:

• 5G is significantly faster than 4G
• 5G has more capacity than 4G
• 5G has significantly lower latency than 4G
• 5G is a unified platform that is more capable than 4G
• 5G uses spectrum better than 4G

5G is a amalgamated platform that is more capable than 4G

While 4G LTE focused on delivering much faster mobile broadband services than 3G, 5G is designed to be a unified, more capable platform that not only elevates mobile broadband experiences, but also supports fresh services such as mission-critical communications and the massive IoT.

5G can also natively support all spectrum types (licensed, shared, unlicensed) and bands (low, mid, high), a wide range of deployment models (from traditional macro-cells to hotspots), and new ways to interconnect (such as device-to-device and multi-hop mesh).

5G uses spectrum superior than 4G

5G is also designed to get the most out of every bit of spectrum across a wide array of available spectrum regulatory paradigms and bands—from low bands below 1 GHz, to mid bands from 1 GHz to 6 GHz, to high bands known as millimeter wave (mm Wave).

 5G is faster than 4G.
5G can be significantly faster than 4G, delivering up to 20 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) high data rates and 100+ Megabits-per-second (Mbps) average data rates.

5G has more capacity than 4G.
5G is designed to support a 100 times increase in traffic capacity and network efficiency than 4G.

5G has lower latency than 4G.
5G has significantly lower latency to deliver more instantaneous, real-time access: a 10x decrease in end-to-end latency down to 1ms.

Q: How will 5G affect the global economy?

ANS: 5G is driving global growth.

• $13.2 Trillion dollars of global economic output
• 22.3 Million new jobs created
• $2.1 Trillion dollars in GDP growth

Through a landmark 5G Economy study, we found that 5G’s full economic effect will likely be realized from corner to corner the globe by 2035 sustaining a wide range of industries and potentially enabling up to $13.2 trillion value of goods and services.

This impact is much greater than previous network generations. The development requirements of the new 5G network are also expanding beyond the traditional mobile networking players to industries such as the automotive industry.

The study also revealed that the 5G value chain (including OEMs, operators, content creators, app developers, and consumers) could alone support up to 22.3 million jobs, or more than one job for every person in Beijing, China. And there are many emerging and new applications that will still be defined in the future. Only time will tell what will be the full “5G effect” on the economy in future.

Q: How will 5G affect everyone?

ANS: 5G is designed to do a range of things that can transform our personal lives, including giving us faster download speeds, low latency, and more capacity and connectivity for billions of devices specially in the areas of virtual reality (VR), the IoT, and artificial intelligence (AI).

With 5G, you can access new and improved experiences including near-instant access to cloud services, multiplayer cloud gaming, shopping with augmented reality, and real-time video translation and collaboration, and many more.

Q: Where is 5G being used?

ANS: Broadly speaking, 5G is used across three main types of connected services, including enhanced mobile broadband, mission-critical communications, and the massive IoT. A defining capability of 5G is that it is designed for forward compatibility—the ability to flexibly support future services that are unknown today.

Improved mobile broadband
In addition to making our smartphones better, 5G mobile technology can usher in new immersive experiences such as VR and AR with faster, more uniform data rates, lower latency, and lower cost-per-bit.

Mission-critical communications
5G can enable new services that can transform industries with ultra-reliable, available, low-latency links like remote control of critical infrastructure, vehicles, and medical procedures.

Massive IoT
5G is meant to seamlessly connect a massive number of embedded sensors in virtually everything through the ability to scale down in data rates, power, and mobility—providing extremely lean and low-cost connectivity solutions.

Q: How do clients use 5G?

ANS: The average consumer is expected to go from being able to consume 2.3 GB of data per month today to close to 11 GB of data per month on their smartphone in 2022.

This is driven by explosive growth in video traffic as mobile is increasingly becoming the source of media and entertainment, as well as the massive growth in always-connected cloud computing and experiences.

4G completely changed how we consume information. In the past decade we have witnessed leaps and bounds in the mobile app industry around services such as video streaming, travel sharing, food delivery and more online services.

5G will expand the mobile environment to new industries. This will contribute to advanced user experiences such as limitless extreme reality (XR), seamless IoT capabilities, new enterprise applications, local interactive content and instant cloud accessibility and more.

Q: How do businesses use 5G in future?

ANS: With high data speeds and superior network reliability, 5G will have a tremendous impact on businesses. The benefits of 5G will enhance the efficiency of businesses while also giving users faster access to more information.

Depending on the industry, some businesses can make full use of 5G capabilities, especially those needing the high speed, low latency, and network capacity that 5G is designed to provide. For example, smart factories could use 5G to run industrial Ethernet to help them increase operational productivity and precision.

Q: How do cities use 5G?

ANS: Smart cities could use 5G in a variety of ways to transform the lives of people living in them—primarily providing greater efficiencies like more connectivity between people and things, higher data speeds, and lower latency than ever before in areas like automotive safety, infrastructure, VR, and entertainment.

Q: How fast is 5G?

ANS: 5G is designed to deliver peak data rates up to 20 Gbps based on IMT-2020 requirements. Qualcomm Technologies’ flagship 5G solutions, the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 and Snapdragon X60 Modem-RF Systems, are designed to achieve up to 7.5 Gbps in downlink peak data rates.

But 5G is about more than just how fast it is. In addition to higher peak data rates, 5G is designed to provide much more network capacity by expanding into new spectrum, such as mmWave.

5G can also deliver much lower latency for a more immediate response and can provide an overall more uniform user experience so that the data rates stay consistently high—even when users are moving around. And the new 5G NR mobile network is backed up by a Gigabit LTE coverage foundation, which can provide ubiquitous Gigabit-class connectivity.

Q: Does 5G change my home internet service?

ANS: 5G can change home internet service by providing a wireless modem alternative to existing wires. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can now serve customers using 5G infrastructure – making the coverage, performance and deployment flexibility of 5G a compelling backhaul alternative to fiber, DSL or cabled solutions.

Is 5G available now?

ANS: Yes, 5G is already here today, and global operators started launching new 5G networks in early 2019. In 2020, many countries expect nationwide 5G mobile networks. Also, all major Android phone manufacturers are commercializing 5G phones. And soon, even more people may be able to access 5G.

5G has been deployed in 35+ countries and counting. We are seeing much faster rollout and adoption compared with 4G. Consumers are very excited about the high speeds and low latencies. But 5G goes beyond these benefits by also providing the capability for mission-critical services, enhanced mobile broadband and massive IoT. While it is hard to predict when everyone will have access to 5G, we are seeing great momentum of 5G launches in its first year and we expect more countries to launch their 5G networks in 2020 and beyond.

Q: Do you need a new phone for 5G?

ANS: Yes, you will need to get a new smartphone that supports 5G if you want to be able to use the network. For example, smartphones powered by the Snapdragon X55 or Snapdragon X60 Modem-RF System are 5G compatible.

There are several new mobile phones available that are designed to support 5G, and multiple carriers across the world support the 5G wireless network. In future more smartphones and carrier subscriptions will become available, as 5G technology and 5G compatible devices becoming more useful in mainstream.

Q: When will 5G be available to common people?

ANS: Like previous generations of mobile networks, it will take time to grow the new 5G network to make it available to common people. In the period in-between, 4G LTE will continue to grow and serve as the anchor of the 5G mobile experience (via multi-connectivity) for many years to come by providing Gigabit data rates outside 5G coverage areas.

The early movers in 5G Technology

In China, Huawei is the most favored 5G smartphone brand (91%), followed by Apple (58%) that is gaining ground for 5G.

Samsung scores the maximum in Western Europe (88%), followed by Huawei (65%).

In India, amongst early 5G smartphone adopters and tech intenders, OPPO scores the maximum (81%), followed by Samsung (79%).

What lies ahead for India on 5G?

The country is already behind others in terms of 5G adoption. The data is cheap, but also slow. As per the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla, India is ranked at 131 for mobile internet speeds, much behind its neighbouring nations like South Korea, Sri Lanka, and even Nepal and Pakistan. Country’s average mobile download speed is 12.07 Mbps, much lower than the global average of 35.26 Mbps.

This can change with the onset of 5G networks in India. It will impact all the major industry sectors, cutting across manufacturing, education, retail, agriculture, transportation, and smart cities, among others.

As we are moving into an era of smart connectivity, 5G will enable telecom operators and OEMs to gain new competencies. Doing so will enable the telecos to re-envision their value proposition for their venture customers, from being connectivity suppliers to becoming truly innovative digital partners.

However, the same effort will be needed from both telecom operators and OEMs. The latter are already doing their part by launching 5G-enabled smartphones. It is about time that telecos realise the importance of 5G and step up their efforts to create the required infrastructure.

Just a year after it was first launched the telecommunications industry’s hesitation around the potential use cases and monetization strategy for 5G is vanishing due to global Covid-19 pandemic. Whether or not enterprise customers actually need all of 5G’s advanced capabilities at present are in question. The excitement around it is opening the door to deeper partnership with customers, a strategic set at the table with ecosystem partners, and an avenue for deriving value from innovation. It is definitely going to benefit all around the world. It will definitely effect positively all stake holders and common people in India.

How blower or heater works and its usefulness

How blower or heater works and its usefulness

A blower or heater is very useful instrument for keeping your home comfortable in the winter season.

Heating mechanism

There is a red-hot metal rod or ceramic core in most heaters. The air moves above the “core” heat, and gushes to increase room temperature. However, hot metal burned, drying water in the air. So what you get from heater, basically, is hot air, super dry. Regardless of clear side effects such as drying your skin, this heater also burns oxygen from the air.

Even people who don’t have an asthma problem, often experience sleepiness, nausea and headaches in the room with conventional heaters. Does it make a bad man heater? Yes – if you use the wrong type. (The term “blower” is everyday in Indian – what most people rather not call as “blower” is actually a convention heater.) Apart from conventional heating, halogen heater, which uses halogen lamp radiation to heat space, also ideas the bad one.

This heater issued chemicals that might enter the hallway of your breathing and play chaos with your inside, especially if you suffer from asthma or allergies. The heater containing oil is a decent choice for patients with respiratory problems, although they are around 10 times more expensive than the most basic rod heaters. The heater filled with oil has a pipe filled with oil. The air doesn’t dry out because it passes hot liquid oil to absorb heat. Oil (even when hot) does not dry air like a convection heater.

How heaters modify air in your room

If you suffer from respiratory complaints, avoid ordinary heaters. People who suffer from bronchitis and sinusitis are basically allergic vulnerable. In cases of patients like that, mucus will accumulate in the lungs which cause coughing and sneezing. Bad heaters for those who are vulnerable to allergies because they can cause mucus to dry up and remain in the body.

If phlegm is drying inside, it can cause lungs and infected sinuses, which require you to take antibiotics, ‘explain Dr. Balbir Singh Gandhi, ENT and CEO specialists, Sukhmani Hospital, Delhi. ‘If allergies are vulnerable, use the heater containing oil. If you have to use an ordinary heater, turn it off after a few minutes. The best is to get a humidifier if you are vulnerable to bronchitis or sinusitis. Steam walks through a pipe as a heating system will still be under control, ‘Recommend Dr. Gandhi.

Problem with Gas heaters

Central heating flowing on gas is all anger abroad. Or at least that, until people begin to wake up with the fact that they can damage your health, and cause permanent damage to the lungs of children. It was found that children who live in homes that use LPG heaters have a much higher incident of asthma and suffer from symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, wheezing and lung damage. Carbon monoxide, provided by this heater, mainly affects children and parents. LPG gas heater is a new concept here, but it has been known to release gas and hazardous chemicals into the atmosphere. Some gas heaters, especially the portable, are “non-fiber” gas heaters, which means that they do not have a chimney or ventilation to release the LPG bye products that are burned to produce heat. The gas heater also releases the carbon monoxide killer, which you will breathe, if you sit in a room heated by the LPG heater.

The Australian Government Agency found that when the gas heater was unpleasant to use, they pushed the levels of nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide at home compared to outside air. Smoke nitrogen dioxide is associated with worse and more frequent asthma attacks, lung inflammation and the risk of higher lung infections. Australia LPG and the British LPG Association showed that heaters were poured (with ventilation to release a by-product of combustion gas) used in homes if residents are diagnosed with all kinds of respiratory problems. Fire warning! If you are not allergic or asthma, ordinary heaters are just fine for one or two months in the year when it’s too cold.

Take extra precautions if you have children at home. The following points need to be stored in your mind.

• Heaters and blowers tend to dry moisture in the air. This can, in turn, dry your baby’s skin and nose. In extreme dry air conditions can cause itchy and nose skin.

• To prevent air drying, you can peace your room with a steamer or moisturizer according to your needs. Several times save only a bowl of water in the same room where the heater runs, helps maintain the level of moisture. Make sure the water bowl is stored at a safe distance from the heater or electrical point.

• Take care so that heaters are just as far as making room temperature comfortable. You can use the thermostat to keep the temperature so the room is not too hot. If the heater is on a very long setting too long, your baby might be too hot.

• If there is a frequent power cut in your area, and blowers continue to enter and die consider to dress your baby in the layer. When the heater is in you can remove the layer. Add the layer when the heater is off, or when you get out of a warm room.

• Keep your heater out of your baby’s reach. Bright coil heaters may look like attractive toys for crawling babies. Most heaters become very hot when they are and can cause serious burns.

• Also, maintain heaters at a safe distance from your bed, baby beds, cabinets, carpets or your bookshelves. Make sure there are no flammable items that are close to heaters or blowers.

• Maintain your heater or blower as suggested in the instruction manual or the owner’s manufacturer. This can prevent damage that can lead to short circuits or release of toxic substances.

Oil heaters are better than electric heaters, coils, fans, kerosene and halogens because:

• Their surface does not heat up a lot.

• They can be used for a longer time.

• Unlike electric heaters, oil heaters cool slowly after turning off. This gives your baby to adjust to changes in atmospheric temperature.

Preventive measure:

1. Use the right industrial socket for heavy work heater.

2. Use the right cable and avoid using a small gauge cable for heating.

3. Take extra precautions and keep out of the reach of toddlers and small children.

4. Fix each electrical point that experiences a little short circuit from Blackishnesh, because it can cause electrical heat in your home.

5. Don’t forget to turn off your MCB when you get out of the house and if there is no one in your home.

6. Never put a heating under your blanket and cover it completely or the trapped heat might cause a fire.

In case of electric fire:

In the case of electric fire, don’t forget to turn off the MCB first. Don’t use water on an electric fire instead using CO2 Extingusher, Dry chemical powder extinguisher after disconnected from the power supply.
